On Monday night the Cleveland Indians started a three-game series with a familiar foe, the Toronto Blue Jays. The last time the Indians and Blue Jays faced off was in the 2016 American League Joe Colborne Jersey Championship Series and many things happened during that time. In Game 3 of the ALCS, Indians Trevor Bauer was removed earlier from Game 3 of the ALCS due to a bloody finger because of a drone incident. Convenientlyenough, Bauer was the Indians starting pitcher in tonight's match up. Don't forget that Bauer also helped the Indians win a franchise-record 14 straight games back in July of 2016. Bauer came out of the bullpen and threw 5 scorele s innings in a 19 inning game. Also since the ALCS series, the Indians gained a new acquisition in Edwin Encarnacion. Encarnacion left Toronto and came to Cleveland in the 2016 offseason and this was his first game back to Toronto since. Lastly, the last time these two teams met, the Indians defeated the Jays in order to clinch a spot in the 2016 World Series. Today the Indians came in with a 17-13 record for the 2017 season and the Blue Jays came in with a record of 11-20. With the 4-2 defeat, the Indians fall to 17-14 on the season and the Blue Jays improved to 12-20. Here's three takeaways from gameone of a three-game series between the Indians and Blue Jays.1.) Warm welcome for Edwin Encarnacion Not only did the Toronto Blue Jays fans give Edwin Encarnacion a Patrick Roy Jersey warm welcome but Encarnacion gave himself a warm welcome back to Toronto with a good day at the plate. Edwin went 2-3 on the day with two singles and a walk. Following the warm welcome in Encarnacion's first at-bat, Edwin greeted former teammate Marcus Stroman with a line drive off of his foot. This was Edwin's first game back to Toronto as mentioned before and the Blue Jays fans showed no hard feelings for their former all-star. Encarnacion spent six full seasons with the Blue Jays and around that time fans from Toronto got to see him develop into the baseball player he is today.2.) Trevor Bauer and Indians defenseScroll to Continue Trevor Bauer made his first start in Toronto since the bloody finger he experienced in the ALCS. Bauer had a rough time with the Blue Jays line up early, especially in the 2nd and 3rd innings. Bauer gave up a Ryan Goins homer in the second inning which gave the Blue Jays an early 2-0 lead. In the third inning, the Blue Jays scored two more runs when Justin Smoak Adam Foote Jersey hit a 2-run single and was thrown out advancing to second base. In the 4th inning, the Indians were experiencingdefensive woes also. Goins grounded into an inning-ending double play to Bauer but as Francisco Lindor was making the transfer he lost the ball and only got Darwin Barney out at second. The next batter was Luke Maile and hehit a line drive to Abraham Almontebut the ball hit the webbing of Almonte's glove and popped out of his glove. Thankfully though Bauer got out of the inning. Bauer went 6 Nathan MacKinnon Jersey innings, gave up 6 hits, 4 earned runs, 3 walks, and 6 strikeouts. Bauer threw 125 pitches which is a career high for him.3.) Indians offense late to the party To start off the game, the Indians made some loud outs. The Indians sent 3 batters to the plate and Carlos Santana started off the game with a fly out to Kevin Pillar. Jason Kipnis hit a line out to Jose Bautista to end the first inning. In the sixth inning, the Indians were threatening with runners on the corners with 2 outs. Jose Ramirez was up at the plate and if it wasn't for an outstanding catch by Pillar the result of tonight's game could have been different. The Indians didn't get on the board until the 8th inning when Lindor hit a 2-run single and advanced to second when Devon Travis was called for an interference error. The Tribe looked to be threatening with no outs and had Kipnis, Encarnacion, and Ramirez due up. Kipnis grounded out to first which advanced Lindor to third base. The Indians still looked to be in good shape but Encarnacion and Ramirez both struck out to end Teemu Selanne Jersey the 8th inning. A positive in the lo s though from tonight is that in the Indians previous 4 series the team has lost the first game 3 times and went on to win the series. Tomorrow the Indians will look to bounce back and will be sending Carlos Carrasco to the mound. The Blue Jays have not announced who starterwill be yet. First pitch is scheduled to be at 7:07 PM EST.
